On the 27th of June 2014 in the plush settings of Holiday Inn, Glenmarie, Boon Siew Honda gave the media a sneak preview of the CB650F & CBR650F models that would soon arrive to Malaysian streets.
The moment of truth is here and the all-new CB650F and the CBR650F are now officially in the market to bring broad smiles to Honda aficionados in Malaysia. Whether you’re the type that goes for the ‘supersport’ look of the CBR650F or like the freedom of the ‘naked’ CB650F, these 2 mean machines have what it takes to satisfy those looking for a mid-range big bike.
The difference between the CB650F & CBR650F lies in personal preference. Do you like that ‘naked’ look or do want full sports fairing? Whatever your choice, the 650F is a true four-cylinder sporty middleweight that offers high style and specifications, an involving easy-to-use riding experience and real value for money. While mechanically and structurally similar, the CB650F & CBR650F offer you a choice as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. These are machines that offer an incredibly high fun factor with solid ergonomics and affordable premium performance will get you excited.
The new 650F is brand new from the wheels up, and it’s been designed from inception by a young team of Honda engineers as a sports-oriented bike, usable and enjoyable in the real world by riders of all backgrounds and experience, in environments from busy urban streets to twisting back roads. A low centre of gravity and slim feel, along with a low-stress and easily-controlled riding position promotes excellent riding confidence.
The DOHC 649cc four-cylinder engine powering the CBR650F is completely new and engineered to deliver high torque through the low-to-mid rpm range, especially below 4,000rpm. Peak power of 64kW arrives at 11,000rpm with peak torque of 63Nm at 8,000rpm. The engine is smooth at all rpm, with distinct inline four-cylinder character and resonance with an evocative right side-swept 4-2-1 exhaust.
A ‘Mass Forward’ stance gives the 650F its sleek and aggressive appearance. Both taillight and front position light are LED.
The riding position is on the relaxed side of sporty and pillions get an ample seat and strap for security. Seat height is 810mm and a narrow middle profile helps ground reach.
The dash comprises twin large digital screens. On the left are the rev-counter and speedometer; on the right are a fuel gauge, clock, odometer and the warning lights. Both sides are lit by a white back light. A compact ‘wave’ design ignition key offers improved security and reduced chance of breakage.
The new 2014 CB650F & CBR650F do what Honda motorcycles have always done best: offer performance, innovation and quality, and deliver it at a value point that’s second to none. Add to that the 650F’s wide capabilities—sportsbike, commuter, weekend fun machine—and you can see that it’s like having two or three machines for the price of one. Best of all, nobody else, at any price, can deliver the build quality and long-term reliability that’s made Honda famous.
For those migrating up to a mid-range machine, the 650F has all the qualities of a much bigger machine with all the nimbleness and maneuverability of desired for in a mid-sized superbike.
